Development and Optimization of a Topical Formulation with Castanea sativa Shells Extract Based on the Concept “Quality by Design”

The proposed study aims to develop and optimize a topical formulation with Castanea sativa shells extract considering the concept of Quality by Design, focusing on planned development that consider vulnerabilities entire process through risk analysis tools design experiments (DoE). A Box–Behnken three factors levels was used as statistical tool for execution DoE response surface methodology responses. independent variables studied were quantity sodium lauryl sulfate (%) (X1), beeswax (X2) macadamia oil (X3); dependent pH (Y1), viscosity (Y2) adhesiveness (Y3). According mathematical model, optimal contains 0.93% sulfate, 5.00% 10.00% oil. prepared characterized over time, regarding organoleptic technological characteristics, allowing conclusions be reached its stability. presented pleasant odor light brown in color, it also demonstrated pseudoplastic-thixotropic behavior small reduction consistency after 30 days storage.
